Data indicate three loci associated with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) were located upstream of ATP binding cassette transporter 1 (ABCA1 (show ABCA1 Antibodies)), within actin filament associated protein 1 (AFAP1) and within GDP-mannose 46-dehydratase (GMDS (show GMDS Antibodies)).

It may represent a potential modulator of actin filament integrity in response to cellular signals, and may function as an adaptor protein by linking Src family members and/or other signaling proteins to actin filaments. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
