Data show that gamma2-adaptin in MVB sorting specifically interacts with the ESCRT subunits Vps28 (show VPS28 Proteins) and CHMP2A.
study found the ESCRT-III proteins CHMP2A & CHMP3 (show CHMP3 Proteins) could assemble in vitro into helical tubular structures that expose their membrane interaction sites on the outside of the tubule; VPS4 (show VPS4A Proteins) could bind on the inside of the tubule & disassemble the tubes
CHMP2A belongs to the chromatin-modifying protein/charged multivesicular body protein (CHMP) family. These proteins are components of ESCRT-III (endosomal sorting complex required for transport III), a complex involved in degradation of surface receptor proteins and formation of endocytic multivesicular bodies (MVBs). Some CHMPs have both nuclear and cytoplasmic/vesicular distributions, and one such CHMP, CHMP1A (MIM 164010), is required for both MVB formation and regulation of cell cycle progression (Tsang et al., 2006
