Results show that eEF1Bgamma binds not only Che-1 and p53 transcripts but also their promoters. Its depletion significantly decreases p53 protein accumulation and slightly impacts on Che-1 accumulation in the mitochondria. These data support the notion that eEF1Bgamma, besides its canonical role in translation, is an RNA-binding protein and a key player in cellular stress responses.
eEF1gamma, in addition to its role in translation elongation complex, is involved in regulating Vimentin (show VIM Antibodies) gene by contacting both pol II and the Vimentin (show VIM Antibodies) promoter region and shuttling/nursing the Vimentin (show VIM Antibodies) mRNA
This gene encodes a subunit of the elongation factor-1 complex, which is responsible for the enzymatic delivery of aminoacyl tRNAs to the ribosome. This subunit contains an N-terminal glutathione transferase domain, which may be involved in regulating the assembly of multisubunit complexes containing this elongation factor and aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases.
