This triggers calcium ion-dependent compound exocytosis of Muc2 mucin (show SLC13A2 Proteins) from the senGC and generates an intercellular gap junction signal; in turn, this signal induces Muc2 secretion from adjacent goblet cells in the upper crypt, which expels bacteria.
HIF-1alpha (show HIF1A Proteins) inhibition decreases MUC2 production and mucinous tumor growth, providing a preclinical rationale for the use of HIF-1alpha (show HIF1A Proteins) inhibitors to treat patients with PMP
colitic Muc2-/- mice have reduced colon CD103 (show ITGAE Proteins)+ CD11b (show ITGAM Proteins)- dendritic cells and increased CD103 (show ITGAE Proteins)- CD11b (show ITGAM Proteins)+ phagocytes.
expression of MUC2 mRNA is found to be more expressed in Eimeria infected females than males
MUC2 silencing increases interleukin (IL)-6 (show IL6 Proteins) secretion by colon cancer cells.
These results suggest that SAA3 (show SAA3 Proteins) plays a role in host innate immunity in the colon by up-regulating MUC2 mucin (show SLC13A2 Proteins) production, which builds a physiological barrier of colonic epithelia against bacterial invasion.
Alterations in the immune compartment due to intestinal bacterial breach in Muc2-/- mice, were investigated.
Meprin beta (show MEP1B Proteins) is an endogenous zinc-dependent metalloprotease (show ADAMTS7 Proteins) now shown to cleave the N-terminal region of the MUC2 mucin (show SLC13A2 Proteins) at two specific sites.
These data suggest that the intestinal mucus layer (Muc2) and core 3 O-glycosylation play critical roles in controlling Salmonella intestinal burdens and intestinal epithelial barrier function, respectively.
Report regiospecific Muc2 O-glycan patterns in mouse stomach, small intestines and colon.
This shows for the first time that transamidation is not only stabilizing the skin and the fibrin clot (show TXNDC17 Proteins), but is also important for the correct intracellular processing of MUC2 to generate protective mucus.
Immunohistochemistry showed a reverse correlation between MUC2 and Notch3 or Jagged1 (P = 0.033 and P = 0.005, respectively) and between MUC5AC and Jagged1 or Hes1
Our results unraveled an important regulatory role for MUC2 mucin (show SLC13A2 Proteins) in human beta-defensin2 mRNA and peptide production in a proinflammatory milieu
There was no significant difference in MUC2 expression between chronic rhinosinusitis patients with and without bacterial biofilm formation.
In ovarian mucinous tumors, MUC2 expression changes with the progression of benign to borderline and malignant tumours
The genetic length variants in the central repetitive region of MUC2 were not associated with meconium ileus in cystic fibrosis (show S100A8 Proteins).
The expression of a subset of mucins (MUC2, MUC6, MUC5B) was also correlated with sialyl-Tn expression in LS174T cells.
There was no difference in the expression of deep MUC1 (show MUC1 Proteins), MUC2, MUC5AC, or MUC6 (show MUC6 Proteins) between the groups of gastric cancer and controls.
The results indicated that the DNA methylation (show HELLS Proteins) status of MUC1 (show MUC1 Proteins), MUC2 and MUC4 (show MUC4 Proteins) in pancreatic juice matched with the mucin (show SLC13A2 Proteins) expression in tissue.
Expression of Hath1 (show ATOH1 Proteins), Muc2, cyclin D1 (show CCND1 Proteins) and p27 (show PAK2 Proteins) in the xenograft tumors was also detected.
identified a specific depletion of secreted MUC2 from goblet cells in Lawsonia intracellularis-infected pigs that correlated with the increased level of intracellular bacteria in crypt cells
The structures of purified soluble porcine gastric (Muc5ac) and duodenal (Muc2) mucin (show SLC13A2 Proteins) solutions at neutral and acidic pH were examined using small-angle X-ray scattering and small-angle neutron scattering experiments
This gene encodes a member of the mucin protein family. Mucins are high molecular weight glycoproteins produced by many epithelial tissues. The protein encoded by this gene is secreted and forms an insoluble mucous barrier that protects the gut lumen. The protein polymerizes into a gel of which 80% is composed of oligosaccharide side chains by weight. The protein features a central domain containing tandem repeats rich in threonine and proline that varies between 50 and 115 copies in different individuals. Alternatively spliced transcript variants of this gene have been described, but their full-length nature is not known.
