  1. This study demonistrated that Neural cell adhesion molecule (show MCAM Proteins) NrCAM regulates Semaphorin 3F (show SEMA3F Proteins)-induced dendritic spine remodeling in mice.

  2. The results demonstrate that NrCAM contributes to mediolateral retinocollicular axon targeting by regulating RGC branch orientation through a likely mechanism in which ephrinB/EphB phosphorylates NrCAM to modulate linkage to the actin cytoskeleton.

  3. These findings suggest a mechanism by which a complex of Sema6D (show SEMA6D Proteins), Nr-CAM, and Plexin-A1 (show PLXNA1 Proteins) at the chiasm midline alters the sign of Sema6D (show SEMA6D Proteins) and signals Nr-CAM/Plexin-A1 (show PLXNA1 Proteins) receptors on retinal ganglion cells to implement the contralateral retinal cell projection.

  4. NrCAM is required for normal maturation of cortical visual acuity. The aberrant projection of thalamic motor and somatosensory axons to the visual cortex in NrCAM-null mutant mice impairs cortical functions.

  5. Here, we show that initial clustering of Na(+) channels at heminodes requires glial NrCAM and gliomedin (show GLDN Proteins), as well as their axonal receptor neurofascin (show NFASC Proteins) 186 (NF186).

  6. These results provide evidence that NRCAM mediates domains of function relevant to symptoms observed in autism.

  7. Expression of Nr-CAM becomes strictly confined to Purkinje and Golgi cells in postnatal cerebellum, suggesting a possible role for the maturation or stabilization of synaptic contacts between climbing fibers and Purkinje cells.

  8. induction of Nr-CAM transcription plays a role in melanoma and colon cancer tumorigenesis

  9. these observations support NrCAM as a positionally cloned and drug-regulated gene whose variants are likely to change expression and alter substance abuse vulnerabilities

  10. Over-expression of the Nr-CAM ectodomain is associated with cell transformation and tumorigenesis in mice

  1. A high level of Nr-CAM expression is associated with favorable tumor phenotype and reduced risk of prostate cancer recurrence.

  2. Genome-wide association analysis of coffee drinking suggests association with CYP1A1/CYP1A2 (show CYP1A1 Proteins) and NRCAM

  3. mechanisms of NrCAM participation in development and how these might be perturbed in disorders are reviewed. [review]

  4. Nr-CAM protein expression is upregulated in colorectal cancer tissues; Nr-CAM overexpression is an independent marker of poor prognosis among advanced CRC (show CALR Proteins) patients, and a possible predictive marker for non-beneficence to 5-fluorouracil-based chemotherapy

  5. Identification of endothelial cell genes expressed in an in vitro model of angiogenesis: induction of ESM-1 (show ESM1 Proteins), (beta)ig-h3 (show TGFBI Proteins), and NrCAM

  6. induction of Nr-CAM transcription plays a role in melanoma and colon cancer tumorigenesis

  7. NrCAM is overexpressed in human papillary thyroid carcinoma at the mRNA and protein levels, whatever the tumour stage.

  8. Distinct cytokeratin 7 (show KRT7 Proteins), cytokeratin 19 (show KRT19 Proteins), & neuronal cell adhesion molecule staining patterns are seen in hepatic adenoma & focal nodular hyperplasia possibly suggest activation of different subsets of hepatic progenitor/stem cell.

  9. our results indicated that the NRCAM gene is one of the strong candidate genes for autism

Neuronal Cell Adhesion Molecule (NRCAM) Protein Profile

Protein Summary

Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) are members of the immunoglobulin superfamily. This gene encodes a neuronal cell adhesion molecule with multiple immunoglobulin-like C2-type domains and fibronectin type-III domains. This ankyrin-binding protein is involved in neuron-neuron adhesion and promotes directional signaling during axonal cone growth. This gene is also expressed in non-neural tissues and may play a general role in cell-cell communication via signaling from its intracellular domain to the actin cytoskeleton during directional cell migration. Allelic variants of this gene have been associated with autism and addiction vulnerability. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
