There is dense expression of Panx2 in the enteric nervous system. The substantial increase in Panx2 mRNA in ulcerative colitis (UC) muscle but not protein suggests that the Panx2 translation process may be disrupted in UC.
Data suggest that both up-regulation and down-regulation of expression of pannexins (PANX1 (show PANX1 Antibodies), PANX2, PANX3 (show PANX3 Antibodies)) are associated with disease onset and/or progression; examples include neoplasms, multiple sclerosis, migraine, and hypertension. [REVIEW]
Panx1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) and Panx2 expression was detected in the temporal lobe cortex of patients with temporal lobe epilepsy and in the control tissues.
Pannexin1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) and Pannexin2 channels show quaternary similarities to connexons and different oligomerization numbers from each other
These data do not suggest that Panx2 or Cx36 (show GJD2 Antibodies) could increase the risk of schizophrenia in the Japanese population.
According to brain cancer gene expression database REMBRANDT, PANX2 expression levels can predict post diagnosis survival for patients with glial tumors.
It used overlap-extension cloning to create the first chimeric Panx, consisting of Panx2 with the Panx1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) C-terminus (Panx2(Panx1CT)), to determine whether the Panx1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) C-terminus influences the trafficking of Panx2.
). Pannexin double-knockout mice (Px1 (show PANX1 Antibodies)(-/-) Px2(-/-)) were less impaired in parameters such as exploration, anxiety, sensorimotor function and behavioral symmetry.
In situ hybridization revealed that mRNAs for Panx1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) and Panx2 were both expressed in the olfactory epithelium and olfactory bulb.
Px1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) and Px2 underlie channel function in neurons and contribute to ischemic brain damage
Pannexin 2 is expressed by postnatal hippocampal neural progenitors and modulates neuronal commitment
Panx2 strongly interacts with the core and high-mannose species of Panx1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) but not with Panx3 (show PANX3 Antibodies). The combination of Panx1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) & Panx2 results in compromised channel function.
Results reveal a widespread and similar mRNA distribution for both pannexin 1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) and 2, but indicate that they are inversely regulated during the development of the rat brain.
Panx1 (show PANX1 Antibodies) and Panx2 are abundantly expressed in the retina, and may therefore contribute to the electrical and metabolic coupling, or to signaling between retinal neurons
Data show that Panx2 is expressed in the spiral and Scarpa's ganglion neurons.
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the innexin family. Innexin family members are the structural components of gap junctions. This protein and pannexin 1 are abundantly expressed in central nervous system (CNS) and are coexpressed in various neuronal populations. Studies in Xenopus oocytes suggest that this protein alone and in combination with pannexin 1 may form cell type-specific gap junctions with distinct properties. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
