Study examined splicing factors located on chromosome 21 for their effect on tau exon 10 and discovered that one of them, hnRNPE3 (PCBP3), modestly activates splicing of exon 10 by interacting with its proximal downstream intron around position +19.
This study demonstrates for the first time that PCBP3 can function as a repressor dependent on binding to single-strand and double-stranded poly(C) sequences.
Represses mu opioid receptor (show OPRM1 Proteins) gene promoter at the transcriptional level.
This gene encodes a member of the KH-domain protein subfamily. Proteins of this subfamily, also referred to as alpha-CPs, bind to RNA with a specificity for C-rich pyrimidine regions. Alpha-CPs play important roles in post-transcriptional activities and have different cellular distributions. This gene's protein is found in the cytoplasm, yet it lacks the nuclear localization signals found in other subfamily members. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
