Knockdown or mutation of either rpl3 or pes resulted in impaired expansion of pancreatic progenitor cells.
We found that uL3 down-regulation correlates positively with multidrug resistance. Restoration of the uL3 protein level re-sensitized the resistant cells to the drug by regulating the reactive oxygen species (ROS (show ROS1 Proteins)) levels, glutathione content, glutamate (show GRIN1 Proteins) release, and cystine uptake.
rpL3 participates in the cell response to chemotherapy acting as a critical regulator of cell cycle (show C13orf15 Proteins), apoptosis and DNA repair, by modulating p21 (show CDKN1A Proteins) expression
The rpL3 is able to modulate the protein amounts of p21 (show CDKN1A Proteins) through a novel pathway independent from p53 (show TP53 Proteins) involving Sp1 (show PSG1 Proteins) and NPM (show NPM1 Proteins).
NPM (show NPM1 Proteins) and KHSRP (show KHSRP Proteins) are two newly identified proteins involved in the regulation of rpL3 gene expression via alternative pre-mRNA splicing.
working model in which rpL3 recruits hnRNP (show HNRNPC Proteins) H1 and, through cooperation with other splicing factors, promotes selection of the alternative splice site
Ribosomes, the complexes that catalyze protein synthesis, consist of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. Together these subunits are composed of 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. This gene encodes a ribosomal protein that is a component of the 60S subunit. The protein belongs to the L3P family of ribosomal proteins and it is located in the cytoplasm. The protein can bind to the HIV-1 TAR mRNA, and it has been suggested that the protein contributes to tat-mediated transactivation. This gene is co-transcribed with several small nucleolar RNA genes, which are located in several of this gene's introns. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. As is typical for genes encoding ribosomal proteins, there are multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene dispersed through the genome.
