  6. Chronic intermittent ethanol upregulates 5HT2C receptor signaling in the bed nucleus of the stria terminalis.

  7. findings show that enhanced alcohol drinking behaviour in mice is associated with the degree of 5-HT(2C)R mRNA editing in the nucleus accumbens and dorsal raphe nuceus

  8. Precise temporal control of Gq signals in 5-HT2c-R domains in GABAergic neurons upstream of 5-HT (show DDC ELISA Kits) neurons provides negative feedback regulation of serotonergic firing to modulate anxiety-like behavior in mice.

  9. Results of the current study suggest aggression displayed by TLX (show NR2E1 ELISA Kits) null and heterozygous mice involves 5-HT(2A (show HTR2A ELISA Kits)/C) receptors.

  10. Mice lacking Htr2c specifically in POMC (show POMC ELISA Kits) neurons had normal weight but developed glucoregulatory defects: hyperinsulinemia, hyperglucagonemia, hyperglycemia, & insulin (show INS ELISA Kits) resistance. These neurons are needed to control energy & glucose homeostasis.

Serotonin Receptor 2C (HTR2C) Antigen Profile

Antigen Summary

Serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT), a neurotransmitter, elicits a wide array of physiological effects by binding to several receptor subtypes, including the 5-HT2 family of seven-transmembrane-spanning, G-protein-coupled receptors, which activate phospholipase C and D signaling pathways. This gene encodes the 2C subtype of serotonin receptor and its mRNA is subject to multiple RNA editing events, where genomically encoded adenosine residues are converted to inosines. RNA editing is predicted to alter amino acids within the second intracellular loop of the 5-HT2C receptor and generate receptor isoforms that differ in their ability to interact with G proteins and the activation of phospholipase C and D signaling cascades, thus modulating serotonergic neurotransmission in the central nervous system. Studies in humans have reported abnormalities in patterns of 5-HT2C editing in depressed suicide victims. Three transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been found for this gene.
