SMG7 encodes a protein that is essential for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD)\; a process whereby transcripts with premature termination codons are targeted for rapid degradation by a mRNA decay complex. Additionally we are shipping and SMG7 Kits (1) and many more products for this protein.

Depletion of nonsense-mediated mRNA decay pathway components Upf1 (show UPF1 Antibodies), Smg5 (show SMG5 Antibodies), and Smg7 led to increased levels of viral proteins and and virus release.
The study demonstrates that SMG5 (show SMG5 Antibodies)-SMG7 and SMG6 (show SMG6 Antibodies) exhibit different and non-overlapping modes of UPF1 (show UPF1 Antibodies) recognition, thus pointing at distinguished roles in integrating the complex nonsense-mediated mRNA decay interaction network.
Data show that phosphorylated hUPF1 (show UPF1 Antibodies), the human ortholog of UPF1/SMG-2 (show UPF1 Antibodies), forms a complex with human orthologs of the Caenorhabditis elegans proteins SMG-5 (show SMG5 Antibodies) and SMG-7.
This gene encodes a protein that is essential for nonsense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD)\; a process whereby transcripts with premature termination codons are targeted for rapid degradation by a mRNA decay complex. The mRNA decay complex consists, in part, of this protein along with proteins SMG5 and UPF1. The N-terminal domain of this protein is thought to mediate its association with SMG5 or UPF1 while the C-terminal domain interacts with the mRNA decay complex. This protein may therefore couple changes in UPF1 phosphorylation state to the degradation of NMD-candidate transcripts. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
