Human Sperm Associated Antigen 6 (SPAG6) interaction partners

  1. studies demonstrate a role for Spag6 in the pathogenesis of OM in mice, possibly through its role in the regulation of cilia/basal body polarity through the PCP (show PRCP Proteins)-dependent mechanisms in the middle ear and Eustachian tubes.

  2. These findings demonstrate that SPAG6 might have a role in malignant myeloid hematologic cell proliferation and apoptosis by regulating caspase (show CASP3 Proteins) proteins and p53 (show TP53 Proteins), suggesting that SPAG6 may be a potential therapeutic target.

  3. SPAG6 is a S-SOX5 (show SOX5 Proteins) target gene, indicating a key role for S-SOX5 (show SOX5 Proteins) in the formation and function of motile cilia.

  4. Data describe the cloning of human and mouse Pf20 (show SPAG16 Proteins) proteins that interact with Spag6 protein.

Mouse (Murine) Sperm Associated Antigen 6 (SPAG6) interaction partners

  1. SPAG6 binds to prestin (show SLC26A5 Proteins) in vivo and contributes to fix prestin (show SLC26A5 Proteins) biomolecules in lateral plasma membrane of outer hair cells.

  2. SPAG6 is a S-SOX5 (show SOX5 Proteins) target gene, indicating a key role for S-SOX5 (show SOX5 Proteins) in the formation and function of motile cilia.

  3. Spag6 is essential for sperm flagellar motility and that it is important for the maintenance of the structural integrity of mature sperm. The occurrence of hydrocephalus in the mutant mice also implicates Spag6 in the motility of ependymal cilia.

  4. Data describe the cloning of human and mouse Pf20 (show SPAG16 Proteins) proteins that interact with Spag6 protein.

  5. Accelerated mortality from hydrocephalus and pneumonia in mice with combined deficiency of Spag6 and Spag16L reveals a functional interrelationship between the two central apparatus proteins.

  6. Spag6 is most abundantly expressed in tissues rich in highly ciliated cells, such as olfactory sensory neurons, and is predicted to be important to cilia.

Sperm Associated Antigen 6 (SPAG6) Protein Profile

Protein Summary

The correlation of anti-sperm antibodies with cases of unexplained infertility implicates a role for these antibodies in blocking fertilization. Improved diagnosis and treatment of immunologic infertility, as well as identification of proteins for targeted contraception, are dependent on the identification and characterization of relevant sperm antigens. The protein expressed by this gene is recognized by anti-sperm antibodies from an infertile man. This protein localizes to the tail of permeabilized human sperm and contains eight contiguous armadillo repeats, a motif known to mediate protein-protein interactions. Studies in mice suggest that this protein is involved in sperm flagellar motility and maintenance of the structural integrity of mature sperm. Several transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene.
