Tapasin, or TAPBP (MIM 601962), is a member of the variable-constant Ig superfamily that links major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules to the transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP\; see MIM 170260) in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It is now clear there are two MHC class I specific peptide editors, tapasin (show TAPBP ELISA Kits) and TAPBPR, intimately involved in controlling peptide presentation to the immune system.
These results support a role of TAPBPR in stabilizing peptide-receptive conformation(s) of MHC-I, permitting peptide editing.
