  2. The expressions of TYMS, TUBB3 (show TUBB3 Proteins) and STMN1 (show STMN1 Proteins) were significantly associated with the clinicopathological characteristics of age, gender and family history of gastric cancer, but not with differentiation, growth patterns, metastasis and TNM (show ODZ1 Proteins) staging in patients with gastric cancer.

  3. High expression of TYMS is associated with Colorectal cancer.

  4. This study identified a novel single repeat in the TYMS gene which might have an impact on the expression of this gene, which needs to be confirmed by functional studies.

  5. There were no other associations between single -nucleotide polymorphisms and the efficacy of MTX (show MTX1 Proteins) treatment. CONCLUSIONS: The MTHFR (show MTHFR Proteins) 677CC and GGH (show GGH Proteins) 401TT and CT genotypes were associated with a reduction in the number of MTX (show MTX1 Proteins)-related adverse events.

Thymidylate Synthetase (TYMS) Protein Profile

Protein Summary

Thymidylate synthase catalyzes the methylation of deoxyuridylate to deoxythymidylate using 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate (methylene-THF) as a cofactor. This function maintains the dTMP (thymidine-5-prime monophosphate) pool critical for DNA replication and repair. The enzyme has been of interest as a target for cancer chemotherapeutic agents. It is considered to be the primary site of action for 5-fluorouracil, 5-fluoro-2-prime-deoxyuridine, and some folate analogs. Expression of this gene and that of a naturally occuring antisense transcript rTSalpha (GeneID:55556) vary inversely when cell-growth progresses from late-log to plateau phase.
