Yaf2 and Rybp (show RYBP Antibodies) can encode opposing functions in the regulation of apoptosis
Yaf2 acts as a functional, likely molecular, link between YY1 (show YY1 Antibodies) and the Polycomb (show CBX2 Antibodies) proteins. It is proposed to mediate the DNA binding activity of YY1 (show YY1 Antibodies) and recruitment of Polycomb (show CBX2 Antibodies) proteins to the regulatory region of target genes.
These findings uncovered an apoptotic signaling cascade linking YAF2, PDCD5 (show PDCD5 Antibodies), and TP53 (show TP53 Antibodies) during genotoxic stress responses.
YEAF1/RYBP (show RYBP Antibodies) and YAF-2 are functionally distinct members of a cofactor family for the YY1 (show YY1 Antibodies) and E4TF1 (show GABPb Antibodies)/hGABP transcription factors.
The protein encoded by this gene interacts with YY1, a zinc finger protein involved in negative regulation of muscle-restricted genes. This gene product itself contains a single N-terminal C2-X10-C2 zinc finger, and in contrast to YY1, is up-regulated during myogenic differentiation. It also facilitates proteolytic cleavage of YY1 by the calcium- activated protease, m-calpain, suggesting a mechanism by which this protein antagonizes the negative effect of YY1. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for this gene.
