    Background
H(+)/Cl(-) exchange transporter 3,[Isoform 1]: Strongly outwardly rectifying, electrogenic H(+)/Cl(-)exchanger which mediates the exchange of chloride ions against protons (PubMed:10915634). The CLC channel family contains both chloride channels and proton-coupled anion transporters that exchange chloride or another anion for protons (By similarity). The presence of conserved gating glutamate residues is typical for family members that function as antiporters (By similarity). {UniProtKB:P51790, PubMed:10915634}., [Isoform 2]: Strongly outwardly rectifying, electrogenic H(+)/Cl(-)exchanger which mediates the exchange of chloride ions against protons (PubMed:10915634). May play an important role in neuronal cell function through regulation of membrane excitability by protein kinase C (PubMed:8155321). It could help neuronal cells to establish short-term memory (PubMed:8155321). {PubMed:10915634, PubMed:8155321}.,Ion channels are integral membrane proteins that help establish and control the small voltage gradient across the plasma membrane of living cells by allowing the flow of ions down their electrochemical gradient. Clcn3 mediates the exchange of chloride ions against protons and functions as an antiporter, contributing to the acidification of the endosome and synaptic vesicle lumen. It may play an important role in neuronal cell function through regulation of membrane excitability by protein kinase C.,[Isoform 1]: Lysosome membrane, Late endosome membrane, Cell membrane, Early endosome membrane,Chloride channel protein 3, ClC-3, Chloride transporter ClC-3
