Description
The cadherin gene family encodes calcium-dependent adhesion molecules that promotehomophilic interactions among cells. All cadherins are single-pass transmembraneproteins with a variable number of extracellular domains (EC, 110 amino acids long). Classical cadherins consist of five EC domains and a conserved cytoplasmic domain andare divided in type I and type II subgroups. Type I comprises cadherin E, N, P, and R. Type IIinclude cadherin-5, -6, -8, -11, and -12. Cadherin-11 (OB-cadherin) is a marker of the loosely connected and migratory cellularelements of the mesenchyme. Strong expression of cadherin-11 has been found in brain, spinal cord, bone marrow and bone cells, and it is regulated in human endometrialglandular epithelial and stromal cells. Recently, cadherin-11 mRNA and protein were foundto be expressed in most invasive breast cancer cell lines tested (but not in non-invasivecell lines), suggesting cadherin-11 as a potential marker for aggressive, invasive tumorsubsets.

Application Notes
Immunohistochemistry (suitable for frozen sections, paraformaldehyde fixed, with 0.2%Triton X-100 in PBS): neat - approx.1: 10. Dilute immediately before use with PBS. Incubation time: 1 h at room temperature / overnight at 2-8C. Recommended positive control: PC-3 cell line (human prostate cell line). Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
