Description
GJA1 is a member of the connexin gene family and a component of gap junctions. Gapjunctions are composed of arrays of intercellular channels and provide a route for thediffusion of materials of low molecular weight from cell to cell. GJA1 is the major protein ofgap junctions in the heart, and gap junctions are thought to have a crucial role in thesynchronized contraction of the heart and in embryonic development. GJA1 is targeted byseveral protein kinases that regulate myocardial cell cell coupling. A related intronlessGJA1 pseudogene, GJA1P, has been mapped to chromosome 5.
Specificity
The antibody recognizes Connexin 43. Species: Mouse, rat, dog, bovine, pig, human. Others not tested.
Application Notes
Western blotting (1: 1,000 - 1: 10,000): the antibody recognises proteins of 43-47 kD onWestern blots of mouse brain lysate. ELISA. Immunofluorescence. Immunohistochemistry (1/50 - 1/250 on frozen tissues). Can be used for the detection ofconnexin 43 in mouse keratinocyte cells and on frozen sections of rat heart. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
