Description
Alpha2-HS glycoprotein (AHSG), a glycoprotein present in the serum, is synthesized byhepatocytes. The AHSG molecule consists of two polypeptide chains, which are bothcleaved from a proprotein encoded from a single mRNA. It is involved in several functions, such as endocytosis, brain development and the formation of bone tissue. The protein iscommonly present in the cortical plate of the immature cerebral cortex and bone marrowhemopoietic matrix, and it has therefore been postulated that it participates in thedevelopment of the tissues. However, its exact significance is still obscure. It promotesendocytosis, possesses opsonic properties and influences the mineral phase of bone. Itshows affinity for calcium and barium ions.
Specificity
This antibody reacts to Heremans-Schmid Glycoprotein a secreted glycoprotein whichinfluences the mineral phase of bone. Species: Human. Others not tested.
Application Notes
ELISA: 1/2000-1/8000. Western Blot: In reduced blots of normal human serum gives intense 56 kD band, duplet+36-42 kD and diffuse band 27/29 kD, Antibody at 1/100. MW from peptide sequence is 44kD but AHSD is glycosylated. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
