Additional Information

Characteristics Synonyms: Choline O-acetyltransferase, Choline acetylase, CHOACTase, ChAT, EC=2.3.1.6
Alternative name CHAT
Swiss-Prot P28329
Immunogen Native Choline Acetyltransferase from Human placenta.
Description Choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) catalyzes the synthesis of the neurotransmitteracetylcholine (ACh) from choline and acetyl-CoA in cholinergic neurons. ChAT serves as aspecific marker for cholinergic neurons in both peripheral and central nervous systems. Dysfunction of cholinergic neurons underlies aspects of clinical symptoms found inneurological and psychiatric disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Down and Rettsyndromes. Choline acetyltransferase recruits choline for the synthesis of acetylcholine atpreganglionic parasympathetic and sympathetic fibres. It is also present atparasympathetic postganglionic fibres.
Specificity Cholinergic neurons in brain and central nervous system. Species: Human, Rat, Mouse, Cat, Monkey and Bat. Others not tested.

Application Details

Application Notes ELISA (1/250-1/1000): In a simple ELISA with 1 µg of antigen coated per well, the 50% ODwas observed at an antibody dilution of 1: 500. Under the same conditions the end pointwas observed at 1/10,000). Immunohistochemistry on Frozen Sections. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
Concentration 5.0 mg/ml
Buffer PBS containing 0.09% Sodium Azide as preservative.
Storage Store the antibody undiluted at 2-8°C for one month or (in aliquots) at -20°C for longer. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Shelf life: one year from despatch.
