| Immunogen | Synthetic peptide corresponding to part of the native molecule conjugated to Keyholelimpet Haemocyanin. |
| Format | Serum |
| Description | Calcitonin is a 32 amino acid peptide hormone synthesized by the parafollicular cells ofthe thyroid. It causes a rapid, but short lived, reduction in serum calcium and phosphateby promoting the incorporation of those ions in the bones. This effect is opposite to that ofparathyroid hormone. Staining for calcitonin may be used for the identification of aspectrum of C cell proliferative abnormalities ranging from C cell hyperplasia to invasivetumors. Staining for calcitonin in medullary carcinoma of the thyroid produces a finegranular pattern in the cytoplasm. Amyloid deposits within the tumor may also exhibitvarying degrees of calcitonin activity. |
| Specificity | Gives positive staining of hormone containing cells in formalin-fixed paraffin sections ofthyroid glands. Species: Human, Rat. Others not tested. |
Application Details
| Application Notes | Immunohistochemistry on paraffin sections (1: 1000 - 1: 4000). Immunohistochemistry on frozen sections (both 30 minutes at 37 C). Immunoflourencence 1: 10 - 1: 40). Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user. |
