Description
This is one of the five types (D1 to D5) of receptors for dopamine. The activity of thisreceptor is mediated by G proteins which inhibit adenylyl cyclase. This receptor is expressed in phylogenetically older regions of the brain, suggesting that it plays a role incognitive and emotional functions. It is a target for drugs which treat schizophrenia, drugaddiction, and Parkinson disease. Alternative splicing of this gene results in multipletranscript variants that would encode different isoforms, although some variants may besubject to nonsense-mediated decay (NMD).

Specificity
The antibody has been characterized by immunocytochemical, Western immunoblot andELISA techniques. It is specific for Dopamine D3 Receptor (aa 2-10). Cross-reactivity: D3 Dopamine Receptor (2-10) 100%D3 Dopamine Receptor 80%D1 Dopamine Receptor (9-21) 0%D1 Dopamine Receptor 0%D2 Dopamine Receptor (272-282) 0%D2 Dopamine Receptor 0%D4 Dopamine Receptor (176-185) 0%D4 Dopamine Receptor 0%

Application Notes
Suitable for immunocytochemical detection of the D3 dopamine receptor: This antiserum has been found to stain specific cells in various regions of PLP fixed ratbrain sections at a dilution of 1: 5,000. This includes dendritic labeling in the molecularlayers (cortex layer 1 and molecular layer of the hippocampus) as well as the plasmamembranes of neurons in layer 5 of cortex and the glomeruli of the olfactory bulb. Western immunoblots using whole rat brain homogenate resulted in a single band beingdetected at ~50kD at 1: 500 dilution. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
