Description
HHV8 has been found to be associated with three different diseases observed in AIDSpatients, kaposi's sarcoma, primary effusion lymphoma (which is a rare type ofnon-Hodgkin lymphoma affecting the body cavities) and multicentric Castleman's disease. To date there is much evidence to support a direct role for HHV8 in kaposi's sarcoma.

Characteristics

Synonyms: HHV-8, KHSV
Specificity
This antibody stains with ORF-73 of human Herpesvirus 8 (HHV8). HHV8 is the likelyetiological agent of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS). HHV8 encodes a latent nuclear antigen (LNA),which is the product of the viral gene orf 73. LNA is capable of forming a complex withretinoblastoma susceptibility gene product, which may be related to its oncogenic activity. Cellular Localization: Nuclear. Species Reactivity: Tested: Human.

Application Notes
Immunohistochemistry: Use at 1/25-1/50 dilution in an ABC method (30 to 60 minutes atroom temperature). Formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue sections require high temperature antigenunmasking with 10 mM citrate buffer, pH 6.0 prior to immunostaining. Recommended Positive Control: Kaposi's sarcoma. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
