| Characteristics | Synonyms: CALCA, CALC1 |
| Alternative name | Calcitonin |
| Swiss-Prot | P01258 |
| Immunogen | Synthetic human calcitonin 1-32 amino acid peptide. |
| Format | Supernatant |
| Isotype | IgG (Matching secondary antibodies) |
| Clone | SP17 |
| Description | Staining for calcitonin may be used for the identification of a spectrum of C cellproliferative abnormalities ranging from C cell hyperplasia to invasive tumors. |
| Specificity | This antibody recognizes Calcitonin, which is a 32 amino acid peptide, which can bedemonstrated in C cells of the normal and hyperplastic thyroid. Staining for calcitonin in medullary carcinoma of the thyroid produces a fine granularpattern in the cytoplasm. Amyloid deposits within the tumor may also exhibit varyingdegrees of calcitonin activity. Species: Human, Monkey, Mouse, Rat, Dog, Horse, Sheep, Pig. Others not tested. |
Application Details
| Application Notes | Immunohistochemistry on formalin-fixed paraffin embedded sections: dilute 1: 100 in anABC method (30 minutes at room temperature). Formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissuesections require high temperature antigen unmasking with 10 mM citrate buffer, pH 6.0prior to immunostaining. Recommended Positive Control: Thyroid or Medullary carcinomaOther applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user. |
| Storage | Store the antibody undiluted at 2-8°C for one month or (in aliquots) at -20°C for longer. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Shelf life: one year from despatch. |
| Research Area | Cancer, Growth Factors, Hormones, Cytoskeleton, Microfilaments, Innate Immunity, Chemokines |
