| Description | Cox-2 (Cyclooxygenase-2) is an inducible enzyme that is normally absent from cells, however, in response to growth factors, tumor promoters and some cytokines, it undergoesa rapid and transient expression. COX-2, also known as prostaglandin H synthase, wasidentified less than a decade ago. Its discovery was followed by a period of discovery anddrug development to create a super aspirin and led to insights into arthritis, Alzheimer'sdisease, colorectal cancer and regulation of brain and kidney function in search of bettertreatments for degenerative and inflammatory diseases. Two different isoforms of theenzyme are known, Cox-1 and Cox-2. |
| Characteristics | Synonyms: Cyclooxygenase-2, PTGS2, COX2, PHS II, PGH synthase 2, PGHS-2, PGHS2, ProstaglandinG/H synthase 2, Prostaglandin-endoperoxide synthase 2, Prostaglandin H2 synthase 2 |
Application Details
| Application Notes | This antibody has been tested for use in Immunoblotting and ELISA. The antibodyrecognizes Cox-2 at 70kDa in Sf9 cell lines transfected with Cox-2 as well as in WISH cellsinduced with IL-1b. Reactivity in other immunoassays is unknown. Recommended Dilutions: This product was assayed by Immunoblot using HRP Goatanti-Rabbit IgG and ECL for detection. A working dilution of 1/5,000-1/10,000 is suggestedfor this assay. For ELISA a working dilution of 1/10,000-1/50,000 is suggested usingProtein A HRP and TMB as a substrate for 30 minutes at RT. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user. |
