Endothelins (ET) show potent constrictor activity in vascular and non-vascular smooth muscle. This family of 21-amino acid peptides exists in at least three isoforms- ET-1, ET-2, and ET-3, and is produced in endothelial and epithelial cells. ET's can mediate biological effects in cells and tissues, and have been shown to bind to an ET receptor in the lung, kidney, heart, and liver. This antibody detects endothelin (ET)-1, ET-2 and ET-3. This antibody shows no cross-reactivity with the peptides ET(15-20) and ET(15-22). This antibody has been successfully used in ELISA procedures. By ELISA this antibody is useful in solid-phase or competitive solution based procedures particularly in the study of enzymatic processing of ET, and in the identification of putative enzyme inhibitors. ABIN120991 can detect approximately 0.5 pmol/ml ET-1 by direct ELISA. ABIN120991 immunizing peptide corresponds to amino acid residues 15-21 of endothelin. This sequence is conserved between numerous species.
