Alternative name GnRH
Gene ID 2796
Swiss-Prot P01148
Immunogen Synthetic Peptide: pyroE H W S Y G L R P (G-NH2) corresponding to human GnRH. Remarks: This sequence is completely conserved in rat and tree shrew and is 78%conserved in zebrafish. The ABIN122786 immunizing peptide (SP5179CP) is available for use in Neutralization andControl experiments.
Description Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH), also known as luteinizing hormone releasinghormone (LHRH), is a key molecule in the regulation of reproduction in vertebrates. GnRH,a decapeptide, is produced by neurons in the medial basal hypothalamus (MBH) andsecreted in a pulsatile manner into the cardiovascular system. The frequency andamplitude of GnRH pulses determine secretion of follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) andluteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary. Higher frequencies (greater than one pulse perhour) stimulate LH secretion while lower frequencies stimulate FSH secretion. Thegeneration of GnRH pulses is effected by numerous stimuli, such as neural, hormonal andenvironmental. Therefore, behavioral and physiological conditions such as sleep, exercise, and stress can affect the GnRH pulses and cause a disruption of the normal cycle. Recent studies show that GnRH also has a role in mediating cancer. GnRH has been shownto inhibit the growth of human uterine leiomyloma cells by suppressing proliferation andinducing apoptosis. GnRH analogs have been used to treat a wide variety of reproductivecancers, although the side effects of using such compounds are often quite severe.
Specificity This antibody detects gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) in mouse brain.

Application Details

Application Notes Immunohistochemistry: 1 ug/ml, results in staining of neurons in the organum vasculosumof the lamina terminalis (OVLT) in mouse embryo brain tissue, 4% paraformaldehyde isrecommended as a fixative. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
Buffer PBS containing 1 mg/ml BSA and 0.05% sodium azide as preservative.
Storage Store the antibody (undiluted) at 2-8°C for one month or (in aliquots) at -20°C for longer. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Shelf life: one year from despatch.
Research Area Reproduction, Hormones
