| Description | Covalent attachment of one protein to another is one of the more prominentposttranslational modifications in respect to size and ubiquity. Ubiquitin is the mostfamiliar of the protein modifiers and its activation and transfer to target proteins has beenstudied extensively. Recently, a new group of ubiquitin-like proteins has been receiving alot of attention. SUMO, or Sentrin, is one of the most intriguing. SUMO has been implicatedin the stabilization of target proteins and/or their localization to sub-cellular complexes. |
| Characteristics | Synonyms: SUMO-2, SMT3B, SMT3H2, HSMT3, Sentrin-2, SUMO-3, SMT3 homolog 1, SMT3H1, Smallubiquitin-like modifier |
