| Description | Caspases are a family of cysteine proteases that are key mediators of programmed cell death or apoptosis. The precursor form of all caspases is composed of a prodomain, and large and small catalytic subunits. The active forms of caspases are generated by several stimuli including ligand-receptor interactions, growth factor deprivation and inhibitors of cellular functions. All known caspases require cleavage adjacent to aspartates to liberate one large and one small subunit, which associate into a2b2 tetramer to form the active enzyme. Caspase-6 encodes a 34-kD protein that is highly homologous to Caspase-1, -2 and -3. Two transcripts of 1.7-kb (Mch2a/Caspase6) and 1.4-kb (Mch2b) transcripts are expressed in Jurkat lymphocytes and other cell lines possibly due to alternate splicing. |
Application Details
| Application Notes | Western blot: 2.0 - 4.0 ug/ml. This antibody recognizes both the 34 kD alpha isoform and the 22 kD beta isoform of caspase-6. Recommended Positive Control: rat brain or Jurkat. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user. |
