Immunogen Synthetic peptide of Human basic hair (trichocytic) keratin K81 (formerly also designated keratin hHb1, C-GISSLGVGSCGSS), coupled to KLH
Specificity The antiserum stains specifically Human hair Keratin K81 present in the hair cortex and hair cuticle and tumors derived therefrom.
Purification Serum
Alternative Name Keratin-81 (KRT81) (KRT81 Antibody Abstract)
Background KRT81 (Keratin 81) is a type II hair keratin. It is a basic protein which heterodimerizes with type I keratins to form hair and nails. It is found primarily in the hair cortex. Mutations in KRT81 have been observed in patients with, monilethrix, a rare dominant hair disease characterized by beaded or moniliform hair that results from the periodic thinning of the hair shaft and shows a high propensity to excess weathering and fracturing.Synonyms: 1, K2.9, K81, KRT81, KRTHB1, Keratin, Keratin 81, Keratin hair basic 1, Keratin-81, Keratin81, MLN 137, MLN137, Type II hair keratin Hb1, basic, ghHKb1, ghHb1, hair, type II cuticular Hb1
