Description
The matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) are a family of peptidase enzymes responsible forthe degradation of extracellular matrix components, including collagen, gelatin, fibronectin, laminin and proteoglycan. Transcription of MMP genes is differentiallyactivated by phorbol ester, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) or staphylococcal enterotoxin B (SEB). MMP catalysis requires both calcium and zinc. MMP-12 (also designated macrophagemetalloelastase) is produced in alveolar macrophages and degrades elastin. MMP-12 maycontribute to elastin degradation occurring in granulomatous skin diseases and may alsoparticipate in macrophage migration through the epidermal and vascular basementmembranes in inflammatory disorders.
Specificity
The antibody recognizes a ~50 kDa band from samples of human origin. Other species not tested.

Application Notes
Western Blot (1-4 μg/ml). Jurkat cell lysate can be used as a positive control. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
