Background MKK7 (Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 7) is a stress-activated member of the MKK family that phosphorylates and activates JNK (c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase/SAPK). MKK7 is specific for JNK and does not appear to phosphorylate either the ERK or p38 members of the MAP kinase family. MKK7 is strongly activated by TNFa or MEK kinase-3, and may also be activated by many factors including heat, UV, CD40 ligation, hyperosmolarity, Fas, or IL-3. Alternately, the Map kinase phosphatase, SKRP1, suppresses JNK activation via MKK7.
