Alternative Name MAP2K4 (MAP2K4 Antibody Abstract)
Background MKK4 (Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 4) is a stress-activated member of the MKK family that phosphorylates and activates JNK (c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase/SAPK). This kinase is a direct activator of MAP kinases in response to various environmental stresses or mitogenic stimuli. MKK4 is specific for JNK and does not appear to phosphorylate either the ERK or p38 members of the MAP kinase family. MKK4 is strongly activated by TNFa or MEK kinase-3, and may also be activated by many factors including heat, UV, CD40 ligation, hyperosmolarity, Fas, or IL-3. The MKK4 protein is ubiquitously expressed and highly conserved among various species.Synonyms: Dual specificity mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 4, JNK-activating kinase 1, MAP Kinase Kinase 4, MAPKK4, MEK-4, MKK4, PRKMK4, SAPK/ERK kinase 1, SERK1, c-Jun N-terminal kinase kinase 1
