| Immunogen | Human holo-transferrin purified from serum and shown to be homogeneous bySDS-PAGE. |
| Description | Transferrin is a single polypeptide chain glycoprotein and is a member of the ironbinding family ofproteins. It has a molecular weight of 79.5 kDa and a serumconcentration range of 1800 - 2700 mg/L. It is synthesised in the liver and consists oftwo domains each having a high affinity reversible binding site for Fe3+. The iron istransported in blood and interstitial fluids to sites of use and disposal.Iron/transferrin isessential in haemoglobin synthesis and for certain types of cell division.Serumconcentration rises in iron deficiency and pregnancy and falls in iron overload, infection and inflammatory conditions. Alternate Names: anti-Beta 1 metal binding globulin antibody, anti-PRO1400 antibody, anti-PRO1557antibody, anti-PRO2086 antibody, anti-Serotransferrin precursor antibody,anti-Siderophilin antibody, anti-TF antibody, anti-Transferin antibody. |
| Specificity | This product gives a single arc when tested by IEP and 2D-IEP against human serum.Identity is confirmed by double diffusion (Ouchterlony) vs human serum and a knownanti-human transferrin. Species Reactivity: Cross-reacts with Human, Rabbit, Rat, Mouse, Cat and Guinea pig. Does notcross-react with Horse, Cow, Dog, Pig, Goat or Chicken. Not yet tested in other species. Localization: Secreted. |
