Description
Type IX collagen-proteoglycan is a major component of hyaline cartilages where it islocated on the surface of the collagen fibrils so that a collagenous domain of the molecule(called COL3) and a non-collagenous domain (called NC4) project at periodic distancesaway from the surface of the fibrils.
Specificity
This antibody is highly specific to type IX collagen and shows no cross-reaction with typesI, II, III, IV, V, or X. Ab-1 recognizes pepsin-resistant type IX collagen fragments from bothcartilage and vitreous. In embryonic chicks, reactive type IX collagen is found within thenotochord at stage 14 and in the notochordal sheath at stage 20. The epitope is locatedclose to the C-terminus (COL2) of the HMW fragment, which is present in both the long- andshort-form type IX collagens. Cellular Localization: Cartilage Matrix. Species: Chicken and Quail. Does not react with Human, Rat and Guinea PigOthers not tested.

Application Notes
Electron Microscopy (7). Immunofluorescence. Rotary Shadowing (7). Immunohistology onfrozen sections. Recommended positive control: Cartilage. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
