Background Superoxide dismutase (SOD) enzyme is a metalloprotein converting the superoxide anionto oxygen and hydrogen peroxide. It is involved in protecting the cells from superoxideradicals generated during aerobic metabolism. All cells have one cytoplamic and onemitochondrial SOD. The cytoplasmic SOD (SOD1) is made up of two identical subunitswhich individually carry one Zn and one Cu atoms. Cu acts as the receiver of free radical. Increased expression is seen in patients with Downs syndrome and Alzheimers disease.

Application Notes Immunohistology on formalin-fixed paraffin embedded tissues: use a 1: 20 dilution (30 min at RT). Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires boiling tissue sections in 10 mM citrate buffer,pH 6.0, for 10-20 min followed by cooling at RT for 20 min. Recommended positive control: LiverOther applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
