Additional Information

Characteristics Synonyms: Protein S100-B, S100 beta, S100 calcium-binding protein B, S-100 protein subunit beta,S-100 protein beta chain, Astrocyte Marker
Alternative name S100B (+ S100A)
Swiss-Prot P02638
Immunogen S100 protein purified from cow brain. Remarks: Mol. Wt. of Antigen: ~22 kDa (non-reduced), ~11 kDa (reduced)
Format Serum
Description S100 belongs to the family of calcium binding proteins such as calmodulin and troponin C. S100A is composed of an alpha and beta chain whereas S100B is composed of two betachains. Antibody to S100 stains Schwannomas, ependymomas, astrogliomas, almost allbenign and malignant melanomas and their metastases. S100 protein is also expressed inthe antigen presenting cells such as the Langerhans cells in skin and interdigitatingreticulum cells in the paracortex of lymph nodes.
Specificity This antibody is reactive with S100A and S100B. Cellular Localization: Cytoplasmic. Species: Human, Cow, Kangaroo, Mouse, Rat, and Chicken. Others not tested.

Application Details

Application Notes ImmunocytochemistryImmunohistology (Formalin/paraffin: use Ab at 1: 100-1: 200 for 30 min at RT, no specialpretreatment is required for histochemical staining of formalin/paraffin tissues). Positive Control: Melanoma or Schwannoma. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
Buffer 10 mM PBS, pH 7.4, with 0.2 % BSA and 0.09 % sodium azide.
Storage Store at 2-8 °C for up to one month or in aliquots at -20 °C for longer. Avoid repeated freezethaw cycles! Shelf life: one year from despatch. Caution: S100 protein is highly soluble and may be eluted from frozen tissue during staining.
Restrictions For Research Use only
