Description
CaMKII is a serine/threonine kinase that is activated by calcium ions (Ca2+) and theCa2+/calmodulin complex (CaM). CaMKII is expressed in glutamatergic excitatoryneurones and constitutes the major postsynaptic density protein. It is important in theregulation of synaptic transmission, with possible roles in learning and memory. CaMKIIcomprises multiple isoforms that are derived from four closely related gene products, alpha, beta, gamma and delta, that have distinct but overlapping expression patterns. Decreased alpha CaMKII autophosphorylation capability in the hippocampus is associatedwith Angelman syndrome, which is associated with mental retardation.
Specificity
This antibody detects calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII). Species: Human. Others not tested.
Application Notes
ELISA: 1: 4000 - 1: 20000. Western Blot: 1: 1000 - 1: 3000, this antibody detects a band of approximately 54kDa inmouse brain cell lysate. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
