| Description | Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) is one of nine structurally related BMPs belonging to the transforming growth factor beta (TGF-beta) superfamily of secreted proteins. Mature BMP4 is a dimer that binds to a multimeric transmembrane receptor with serine/threonine kinase activity. Although BMP4 was discovered because it stimulates bone formation in adult mammals, it has important roles as a signaling molecule in embryonic tissues including the developing central and peripheral nervous system, musculature and skeleton. It also participates in a signaling pathway found in insects and worms. BMP4 is implicated in fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. It is uniquely over-expressed in lymphoblastoid cells and preosseous fibroproliferative lesions. BMPs 1 to 6 are expressed in prostatic adenocarcinoma and BMPs 1 to 5 are expressed in both benign prostatic hyperplasia and ocular melanoma. BMP4 also plays an important role in early tooth morphogenesis. |
| Specificity | Species Reactivity: Human, mouse and Xenopus. Others not tested. Positive Control: Prostatic adenocarcinoma or osteoclastoma. |
Application Details
| Application Notes | Western blot Immunohistochemistry: Paraffin sections, Use at a 1:10 - 1:20 dilution. Incubate 60 minutes with primary antibody at 25 °C. Standard ABC technique. The optimal dilution for a specific application should be determined by the researcher. |
| Buffer | Lyophilized tissue culture supernatant containing 15 mM sodium azide. |
| Storage | Unopened lyophilized antibody can be stored at 4 °C for short term storage. For long term storage, store at -20 °C. After reconstitution, it is recommended that aliquots of the antibody be made and frozen at -20 °C (frost-free freezers are not recommended). Repeated freezing and thawing must be avoided. Prepare working dilutions on the day of use. Reconstitution: Reconstitute with 1 mL sterile distilled water and let lyophilized pellet dissolve completely. Slight turbidity can occur after reconstitution and does not affect activity. Clarify by centrifugation. |
