Additional Information

Alternative name Cytochrome c
Immunogen Horse cytochrome c (aa.1-104).
Isotype IgG2b  (Matching secondary antibodies)
Clone SJL2-4
Description Cytochrome c is translated by cytosolic ribosomes as apocytochrome c, and undergoes subsequent translocation into the mitochondria where a heme group is attached covalently to form holocytochrome c. Cytochrome c is important in the process of oxidative phosphorylation in mitochondria by participating in electron transport. Following exposure of a cell to an apoptotic stimuli, cytochrome c is released from mitochondria into the cytosol, binds Apaf-1 and stimulates activation of proapoptotic caspase-9 and -3. Bcl-2 and Bcl-xL prevent the release of cytochrome c and thereby inhibit apoptosis.
Specificity Recognizes apocytochrome c. Species Reactivity: Human, mouse, rat, goat, sheep and monkey. Others not tested.
