Description
|
MART-1 has been widely studied as a melanoma-specific antigen and as amelanosome-specific marker. A role for MART-1 in pigmentation is expected becauseits expression pattern and subcellular distribution is quite similar to the othermelanosomal proteins and usually correlates with melanin content. MART-1 forms acomplex with Pmel17 and affects its expression, stability, trafficking, and the processingwhich is required for melanosome structure and maturation. MART-1 is indispensablefor Pmel17 function and thus plays an important role in regulating mammalianpigmentation (1). A gene has been identified that encodes a melanocyte lineage-specificprotein (MART-1, melanoma antigen recognized by T cells 1) that is a widely sharedmelanoma antigen recognized by the T lymphocytes of patients with establishedmalignancy. Identification of this gene opens possibilities for the development ofimmunotherapies for patients with melanoma (2). Alternate Names: anti-Antigen LB39 AA antibody, anti-Antigen SK29 AA antibody, anti-MART 1 antibody,anti-MART1 antibody, anti-Melan A antibody, anti-Melan A protein antibody,anti-Melanoma antigen recognized by T cells 1 antibody, anti-MLAN A antibody,anti-MLANA antibody.
