Description
|
MGP belongs to the osteocalcin/matrix Gla protein family and contains one Gla(gamma-carboxy-glutamate) domain. It associates with the organic matrix of bone andcartilage and is thought to act as an inhibitor of bone formation. Defects in MGP are the cause of Keutel syndrome (KS) [MIM: 245150]. KS is an autosomalrecessive disorder characterized by abnormal cartilage calcification, peripheral pulmonarystenosis neural hearing loss and midfacial hypoplasia.
