Additional Information

Characteristics Synonyms: Interferon-alpha, IFN-alpha, IFNalpha, IFNa, Leukocyte Interferon, B Cell Interferon, Type IInterferon
Alternative name Interferon alpha (IFN alpha)
Immunogen Highly pure (>98%) recombinant Human IFN-alpha
Cross-Reactivity Human
Description The type I interferons consist of 14 different alpha isoforms (subtypes with slightly differentspecificities), and single beta, omega, epsilon and kappa isoforms. Homologousmolecules are found in many species, including rats and mice (and most mammals), andhave been identified in birds, reptiles and fish species. Interferon alpha is producedprimarily by plasmacytoid dendritic cells and is a potent component of the anti viral innateimmune response, it modulates adaptive immunity. The classification of mammalian cytokines with antiviral activity, is well documented asbeing either Type I Interferon (IFNI) or Type II Interferon (IFNII). This is not the case for avianIFNs however, even though IFN was first detected in the chicken. A growing number offunctional studies indicate similarities between chicken IFN and mammalian IFNI, revealingthe conservation of cysteine residues and the existence of around ten closely relatedintron-less IFN alpha genes. Further research has shown that chIFN-alpha genes arestrongly expressed following viral infection of monocyte-derived macrophage and embryofibroblasts and that recombinant chicken IFN acts as a potent antiviral agent.
Specificity Interferon-alpha. Species: Human. Others not tested. Add. Information: Centrifuge the vial prior to opening.

Application Details

Application Notes Neutralization: To yield one-half maximal inhibition [ND50] of the biological activity of Human IFN-alpha(1.0 ng/ml), a concentration of 0.015-0.025 µg/ml of this antibody is required. ELISA: To detect Human IFN-alpha by Direct ELISA (using 100 μl/well antibody solution) aconcentration of at least 0.5 μg/ml of this antibody is required. This Antigen Affinitypurified antibody, in conjunction with compatible secondary reagents, allows the detectionof at least 0.2-0.4 ng/well of recombinant Human IFN-alpha. To detect Human IFN-alpha by Sandwich ELISA (using 100 μl/well antibody solution) a
Concentration 1.0 mg/ml
Purification Aff - Purified
Buffer 0.5xPBS, pH 7.4Reconstitution: Restore in sterile water to a concentration >/= 0.2 mg/ml.
Storage The lyophilized antibody is stable at -20°C for one year from despatch. The reconstituted antibody is stable for two weeks at 2-8°C. Frozen aliquots are stable for six months when stored at -20°C. Avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
