Additional Information

Alternative name Defensin alpha 5
Gene ID 1670
Immunogen Full-length proHD5 protein. [Swiss-Prot# Q01523] The propeptide is the full-length protein. In the mature form, it is cleaved at residue 63(alanine).
Cross-Reactivity Human
Isotype IgG2b
Clone 8C8
Description Human neutrophil alpha-defensins (also designated HNPs) are small, cationic,cysteine-rich antimicrobial proteins that play important roles in innate immunity againstinfectious microbes such as bacteria, fungi and enveloped viruses. Alpha-defensins aresynthesized as inactive precursors and are activated by proteolytic cleavage by MMP-7.Paneth cells in small intestinal crypts secrete the alpha-defensins, which are alsotermed cryptidins in mice. Alpha-defensins 5 and 6 probably contribute to innatedefense of the GI mucosal surface by protecting against microbial invasion in states ofintestinal inflammation. Alternate Names: anti-HD5 antibody, anti-Defensin 5 antibody, anti-Defensin, alpha 5 antibody,anti-DEFA5 antibody, anti-DEF5 antibody. Related Diseases: Crohn',s Disease
Specificity This antibody is specific for HD5. It does not cross-react with HD6, lysozyme or sPLA2. Species Reactivity: This antibody reacts with human HD5 protein. Other species have not been tested. Localization: Secreted protein.
