Description
Interleukin 6 (IL6) is a multifunctional 24 kDa protein originally discovered in the mediumof RNA stimulated fibroblastoid cells. It is upregulated by IL1, TNF, PDGF, IFN beta, TNFalpha, NGF, IL17 and downregulated by glucocorticoids IL4, TGF beta. IL6 appears to bedirectly involved in the responses that occur after infection and cellular injury, and it mayprove to be as important as IL1 and TNF alpha in regulating the acute phase response. IL6has also been implicated in regulating adipose mass. IL6 is reported to be produced by fibroblasts, activated T cells, activated monocytes ormacrophages and endothelial cells. It acts upon a variety of cells including fibroblasts, myeloid progenitor cells, T cells, B cells and hepatocytes. In addition, IL6 appears tointeract with IL2 in the proliferation of T lymphocytes. IL6 potentiates the proliferativeeffect of IL3 on multipotential hematopoietic progenitors.

Specificity
Recognizes Human and Baboon Interleukin-6 (IL-6). Does not recognize Mouse IL-6 or a panel of other Human cytokines. Species: Human and Baboon. Others not tested.

Application Notes
ELISA: This antibody has been used as a Coating antibody at 5-15 µg/ml in a two site ELISAwith Biotin conjugated IL-6 antibody (ABIN264356). Typically the ELISA has a workingrange of 0-10000 pg/ml and a sensitivity of 5 pg/ml with the appropriate standard. Recommended sample volumes: 25-200 µl. Recovery of Human IL-6 in added to Human serum is typically >85% in the ELISA. Other applications not tested. Optimal dilutions are dependent on conditions and should be determined by the user.
