Description
|
TCF-3 and TCF-4 (T cell factor-4) are a members of the TCF/LEF (lymphoid enhancer factor)family of transcription factors. Members of this family along with catenin, are involved inmediating Wnt signaling by transactivating downstream genes. TCF-4 generatestranscriptionally active complexes with catenin in colon carcinoma cells. Expression ofTCF-4 is highest in the CNS and intestinal epithelium where Wnt signaling also plays anessential role in development. Aberrant TCF-4 transcription activity has been implicated incarcinogenesis of intestinal and mammary epithlia. TCF-3 appears to be expressedexclusively of TCF-4 in the hair follicles, stomach epithelium, and keratinocytes of the skin.
