Description
|
Pepsin is an enzyme whose precursor form (pepsinogen) is released by the chief cells in the stomach and that degrades food proteins into peptides. It was discovered in 1836 by Theodor Schwann who also coined its name from the Greek word pepsis, meaning digestion (peptein: to digest). It was the first animal enzyme to be discovered, and, in 1929, it became one of the first enzymes to be crystallized, by John H. Northrop. Pepsin is a digestive protease.

Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-Peroxidase, anti-Goat Serum as well as purified and partially purified Pepsin (Porcine Stomach).

Pepsin antibody (HRP) was purified by delipidation, salt fractionation and ion exchange chromatography followed by dialysis.

Lyophilized from 0.02M K3PO4 pH 7.2, with 0.15M NaCl, 10 mg/ml BSA and 0.01% gentamycin sulfate. DO NOT add NaN3. Immunoglobulin and protease free.
