    Background
GluR1, widely expressed throughout the nervous system, is a component of AMPA receptors (alpha-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxalone propionic acid receptors), which play a key role at excitatory synapses. Phosphorylation of Ser831 and Ser845 is reported to potentiate GluR1 function, suggesting a possible role in synaptic plasticity, learning and memory.Synonyms: AMPA-selective glutamate receptor 1, AMPA1, GLUH1, GRIA1, GluR-1, GluR-A, GluR-K1, Glutamate receptor ionotropic
