Description
|
Autophagy is the process by which endogenous proteins and damaged organelles are destroyed intracellularly.autophagy is postulated to be essential for cell homeostasis and cell remodeling during differentiation, metamorphosis, non-apoptotic cell death, and aging. Reduced levels ofautophagy have been described in some malignant tumors, and a role forautophagy in controlling the unregulated cell growth linked to cancer has been proposed. FUNCTION: Plays a role inautophagy. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasmic vesicle, autophagosome membrane, Multi-pass membrane protein. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Highly expressed in placenta (trophoblast cells) and pituitary gland. Not expressed in vascular endothelial. INDUCTION: By hypoxia, leading to inhibit NOS3 expression. Also known as: ATG9B,autophagy-related protein 9B, APG9-like 2, Nitric oxide synthase 3-overlapping antisense gene protein, Protein sONE, APG9L2, NOS3AS, SONE.
