Immunogen A synthetic peptide from aa region 100-150 of of human RAC1 conjugated to blue carrier protein was used as the antigen. The peptide is homologous in rat, mouse, guinea pig, bovine, xenopus, dog, zebrafish and chicken.
Specificity Specific for RAC1 and RAC2.

Background Function: Plasma membrane-associated small GTPase which cycles between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. In its active state, binds to a variety of effector proteins to regulate cellular responses such as secretory processes, phagocytosis of apoptotic cells, epithelial cell polarization and growth-factor induced formation of membrane ruffles.
Enzyme regulation: Regulated by guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) which promote the exchange of bound GDP for free GTP, GTPase activating proteins (GAPs) which increase the GTP hydrolysis activity, and GDP dissociation inhibitors which inhibit the dissociation of the nucleotide from the GTPase.
Subcellular location: Cell membrane, Lipid-anchor, Cytoplasmic side. Melanosome. Note: Inner surface of plasma membrane possibly with attachment requiring prenylation of the C-terminal cysteine. Identified by mass spectrometry in melanosome fractions from stage I to stage IV. RAC1:
Tissue specificity: Isoform B is predominantly identified in skin and epithelial tissues from the intestinal tract. The expression of isoform B is elevated in colorectal tumors at various stages of neoplastic progression, as compared to their respective adjacent tissues. RAC2:
Tissue specificity: Hematopoietic specific. DISEASE: Defects in RAC2 are the cause of neutrophil immunodeficiency syndrome. Also known as: RAC1 is also known as: p21-Rac1, Ras-like protein TC25, Cell migration-inducing gene 5 protein, RAC2 is also known as: p21-Rac2, Small G protein, GX.
Application Notes A dilution of 1 : 300 to 1 : 2000 is recommended.
The optimal dilution should be determined by the end user.
