Description BMPs (bone morphogenetic proteins) belong to the TGF beta superfamily of structurallyrelated signaling proteins. Members of this superfamily are widely represented throughoutthe animal kingdom and have been implicated in a variety of developmental processes. Proteins of the TGF beta superfamily are disulfide-linked dimers composed of two 12-15 kDapolypeptide chains. As implied by their name, BMPs initiate, promote and regulate bonedevelopment, growth, remodeling and repair. Smad1 translocation to the nucleus isobserved after the addition of BMP4 (also designated BMP2B), suggesting that BMP4 mayplay a role in activation of the Smad pathway. BMP is secreted into the extracellular matrix. BMP4 is one of nine structurally related BMPs belonging to the transforming growth factorbeta superfamily of secreted proteins. BMP4 has important roles as a signaling molecule inthe developing central and peripheral nervous system, musculature and skeleton. BMPalso plays an important role in early tooth morphogenesis.
Specificity This antibody detects BMP4. Cellular localisation: Cytoplasmic. Species: Human. Others not tested. Add. Information: Molecular Weight: 45kDa
